Bridge Cost

A dental bridge procedure is considered to be a functional as well as a cosmetic procedure . The main purpose of it is to correct cases of edentulism (i.e. toothlessness) or to replace a broken tooth, but there is also a growing concern about the esthetic part of it. The dental bridge is supposed to gel well with the rest of the teeth so that it does not look ungainly in its surroundings. Because it is classified as a cosmetic procedure , the bridge cost generally tends to be higher than other dental procedures which relate to dental implants.

Dental bridge costs are dual in nature. There is the cost of the dental implants i.e. the bridges themselves and then there is the cost of the procedure, which is called as the restoration. The cost of the bridge can vary from $650 to up to $1,500. There is a wide fluctuation in the costs mainly because this is considered to be a cosmetic procedure. For that reason, urban developed areas tend to charge more for the procedure than the rural areas. That might sound a bit odd, but that is the way the prices of these dental implants are pegged. The procedure itself is much costlier because it requires special expertise. A person undergoing this procedure must expect to pay at least $2,000 if it is a single unit bridge (i.e. the bridge is placed only on the tooth that is defective) or at least $4,500 if it is a double unit bridge. Prices multiply as the number of teeth involved is higher.

The general way of calculating the bridge cost is by checking the number of crowns that will be required in the procedure. The calculations are put at per unit so that it becomes easy to multiply and arrive at a suitable figure when more than one tooth is involved. The type of bridge is also very important. The material counts – some people go for expensive implants such as gold, while others go for substances that look more natural with the teeth such as porcelain. Based on this, the bridge color also varies.

People try to reduce the bridge cost by selecting cheaper materials. Porcelain implants are cheaper than gold ones, but people who can afford a slightly higher expense on this cosmetic procedure will go for an implant that is made of porcelain fused with gold. This material is actually becoming quite popular today in the realm of dental bridge implants . In other instances, if the tooth to be restored is at the back of the mouth, then gold dental implants are usually preferred. But if the tooth is in the front of the mouth and is visible when smiling, a porcelain implant is used as it camouflages itself well with the rest of the teeth and does not become obvious.

The bridge cost for a single tooth restoration is highest when the dentist needs to use both healthy teeth that flank the defective one and make a triple unit bridge. This is done in cases when a tooth has been completely destroyed and needs to be removed completely. Bridge cost in such cases can also be reduced by compromising on the materials that are used in the procedure.
